A Galway native Shane’s passion for golf started as a young junior golfer in Ballinasloe back in the early ‘80’s.

After finishing secondary school Shane pursued a professional career in golf.  He started his PGA training under Eoin Mulhall at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club in 1988. Eoin was a renowned Golf Coach having worked under John Jacobs.  Eoin had a huge influence on Shanes coaching career.

In 1990 Shane joined the Royal Dublin Golf Club under Leonard Owens.  Here his already strong reputation as a player flourished.  Under Leonards mentoring he became one of the best young professionals in Ireland over a five-year period.  He had great success playing and winning multiple times on the Irish PGA circuit. Winter months brought Shane to the Tommy Armour mini tour in Florida USA where again he had great success. He played numerous times on the Challenge Tour and played tour school from 1990 to1994 narrowly missing his tour card on one occasion.

In 1995 Shane joined Blackbush Golf Club as the Head PGA Golf Professional.  It was not long before he established a strong coaching clientele along with a large Pro shop retail business.

In 1999 Shane was appointed as the GUI Leinster Elite Golf Coach and has achieved huge success in developing Leinster coaching pathways which has produced a constant flow of junior boys into elite players.

In 2002 he established Shane O’Grady Golf Academy at Blackbush Golf Club and became a market leader developing the first video linked golfing studio.  Over the years his golf academy has become Ireland’s leading golf academy where Shane has successfully coached over 120 recognised tournament winners at both amateur and professional levels including Leona Maguire, Gavin Moynihan, David Carey, Lauren Walsh, Julie McCarthy and Rachel Thompson, Dylan Keating to name but a few.

One standout day for Shane was the opportunity of coaching two time major winner and Ryder Cup Captain José María Olazábal, who spent a morning with Shane at the Shane O’Grady Golf Golf Academy in 2006 before the European Open at The K Club.

In 2014 Shane was honoured by the PGA receiving the title of Advanced Fellow PGA Professional.

In 2020 Shane was ranked in the top 50 World International Golf Coaches by Golf Monthly.

Shanes portfolio of elite amateur and professional golfers goes from strength to strength. Although this is his niche market Shane has a passion for helping all levels of golfers including club members regardless of handicap or ability.

Shane is highly motivated with a high work ethic to achieve desired results.  He continues to develop with the times and embrace the future of golf with excitement.
